Eat Your Veggies
Beets are a strong diuretic that focuses on the liver and kidneys. Beets flush out floating body fats. They have a special iron the cleanses the corpuscles, which are blood cells that can contain fat deposits. It also contains a chlorine that also helps to flush out fatty deposits. This chlorine stimulates the lymph which will clear out the fat deposits.
Brussel Sprouts stimulate the glands, the pancreas especially, which releases hormones that have a cleansing effect on the cells. There are also minerals the stimulate the kidneys. Waste is released quicker and it helps to clean out the cells.
Cabbage cleanses your body of waste matter because it contains sulfur and iodine, which helps to cleanse the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines. Cabbage is a great food if you should have a pot belly or a middle age spread. The diuretic cabbage will help to break up the fat in this area.
Carrots contains carotene, a form of Vitamin A, this carotene will start a fat flushing reaction in your system. This reaction will literally wash out fat and waste quickly. The carotene will be transformed into vitamin A, in the intestines, and this process will create a speed up in your metabolism and cause a reaction in your cells to remove fat deposits.
Raw celery has a high concentration of Calcium in a ready to use form, so when you eat it, the calcium is sent directly to work. This pure form of calcium will ignite your endocrine system. The hormones in your body will break up the accumulated fat build up. Celery also has a high level of magnesium and iron which will clean out your system.
Cucumber contains a high sulfur and silicon content. These minerals work to stimulate the kidneys to wash out uric acid, which is a waste product. With this uric acid being washed out, it stimulates the removal of fat, and loosens the fat from the cells.
Garlic is also a natural diuretic. Garlic has mustard oils and these oils create a cleansing action in the body. They promote a vigorous action of peristalsis, which is muscular contraction, and this will loosen fat and help wash out fats. They can also breakdown clumps of fat. So eat garlic and thin down.
We've all seen horseradish, few venture to use it, but it has an amazing effect of dissolving fat in cells (no side effects) and also as a cleansing effect on the body.
Lettuce contains iron and magnesium. These minerals will enter your spleen. Your spleen helps your immunity and protects the body from illness. The spleen will use these minerals make them stronger, and send them to the cells and tissues. It will also help the liver, increase your metabolism, and wash out fatty cells. The darker lettuces have more of the minerals.
Onions, similar to garlic, have minerals and oils that will help to breakdown fat deposits and speed up your metabolism. Have raw onions every day, it has more power than garlic and with the milder smell, it will make an excellent addition to your diet.
Radishes scrub the mucus membrane of the body because it contains high levels of iron and magnesium. These minerals actually help to dissolve fat in the cells.
Tomatoes have high Vitamin C and Citricmalic-oxalic acids. The acid will accelerate the metabolic process. It also helps the kidneys to release more water and helps to wash away fat. The natural acids with the enzyme activated minerals prompt the kidneys to filter out large quantities of fatty deposits and then you eliminate them from your system.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar in small quantities. You can add it to your salad as a dressing. What makes this such a powerful diuretic is this: It is made from apples and the malic acid in apples will create a fat burning process. Another factor with this vinegar is the fermentation process causes the vinegar to have constructive acids that join with alkaline elements and minerals in the body. This produces a cell scrubbing effect. It also contains high levels of potassium, which has an antiseptic quality to that helps to eliminate fat deposits.

It's Back!

I have been waiting all year, and it is finally back! French Vanilla Cool Whip (I couldn't help but sing the song when I typed that) is only available in stores during the fall and winter seasons. Gosh, it is such a treat. It reminds me of cake batter. Well, I think that is what I remember. It is GOOD, and you should try it. I have a bit of a sweet-tooth. I could pass up a meal anyway for something sweet. Pictured here is French Vanilla Tiramisu. If you are interested in the recipe for this dessert, it can be found at the Kraft website. If you make it...let me have a sample.

I'm confused. Did Thanksgiving already pass?
It seems that every year, we overlook Thanksgiving and jump straight into Christmas. Christmas sells. Oh well, who is really thankful for what they have, anyway.

Strike a Pose

I got my new digital camera in last week, and today I went around a snapped around. I didn't have much of a selection in these parts because our yard isn't exactly picturesque, but I got a few.
This first picture is of Cypress Lake at UL-Lafayette. It was taken Saturday before I had to go to work. I had some extra time on my hands.
After loading this first picture, I am noticing how s-l-o-w my dialup internet connection loads things. It's not my fault I have dialup. It is the only thing available to me out in the boondocks. My pictures with my old camera added pretty fast, but they were 7 times smaller.

This second picture was taken in mom's flower bed. I haven't learned how to use all the bells and whistles that come with the camera, so hopefully my future photos will be...umm...something to talk about.

SAVE THE HORSE FARM!

UL aims to sell horse farm for commercial development.
By Leslie Turk 9/28/2005
UL Lafayette officials have applied for rezoning of a large portion of the university’s horse farm property on Johnston Street, across from Mel’s Diner, in hopes of selling the prime land for commercial development.
Long operated as an equestrian center, the property has not housed horses for some time. More recently, it’s been used as a training site for CajunBot.
University officials could not be reached for comment last week on whether they have secured a buyer — a deal likely contingent on the university’s successful bid to rezone — or simply want to put the property up for sale.
On Sept. 7, the university applied with Lafayette Consolidated Government for reclassification of a 36-acre tract from multi-family residential to general business — a change that would significantly increase the property’s value.
“Right now, it’s zoned for any type of residential, including apartments,” says civil engineer Paul Miers, who is working with the university. South College Shopping Center borders the property’s north side, and Red Lerille’s Health Club is directly south of it. The property is also adjacent the Louis XIV Apartments, which are being redeveloped as condominium complex.
The university, however, is exempt from local zoning ordinances, meaning it is not restricted in the use of the property for its own purposes, Miers says.
Denise Womack of LCG’s Planning, Zoning & Codes department says the request for rezoning is being analyzed and that adjoining residents are receiving notification letters. The Zoning Commission’s public hearing is set for Oct. 17, at which time it will make a recommendation to the Lafayette City-Parish Council. When the rezoning ordinance is scheduled for final adoption, likely Nov. 22, the council will hold another public hearing, Womack says.
Miers says about 50 to 75 property owners are being notified. Residents living in Woodbriar Court and Woodbriar Place subdivisions — mainly those on Oakleaf Drive as well as people living in Evangeline Heights subdivision primarily on Acadian Drive — are closest to the tract. The engineer says the university has already agreed to extend the buffer zone beyond the required 5 feet for a commercial development. “I’m sure they’re going to have questions,” Miers says of local residents.
At the top of the list of questions is likely to be the development’s impact on heavily traveled and often congested Johnston Street. “Traffic considerations would be addressed when the property is developed and would depend heavily on the type of development,” Womack says.
This is a beautiful and unique piece of property that needs to be preserved for the future generations of Acadiana residents. We could utilize this property as a public access park, a working farm for farmers market produce. We need to explore, as a community, the importance of greenspace in attracting progressive companies who take care of their workers, and in the role it plays in quality of life in Lafayette. I seriously doubt that the couple who donated the horse farm to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette ever intended for this amazing piece of property to be developed. The potential for the horse farm to be an excellent tool for ULL students and hands-on learning is too great to be overlooked. Save the horse farm and sign the petition.

Man Bites Hurricane
They were poor. They lived in homes that, to some Americans, would appear no more than shacks. They've suffered discrimination at the hands of their fellow Americans. And when the hurricane came, it seemed to veer out of its way, just to hit them.
So why didn't hundreds of Cajuns from western Louisiana appear on my TV screen this week, complaining that George W. Bush doesn't like them, demanding $200 billion of my tax dollars or blaming the bad weather on Halliburton?
Hurricane Rita may have hit western Louisiana harder than Katrina hit New Orleans, but Rita across folks made of sterner stuff then you'll find in the Ninth Ward. Here's how one Washington Post story described the scene just hours after Rita made landfall near Intracoastal City, a "city" that in many senses barely exists:
"The only people who can get here are the sturdiest of sorts, a small armada of Cajuns with pretty French names and sunburned skin and don't-mess-with-me bravado. The bayous were full of them Saturday, gliding high and quick in airboats, and so was the Vermilion River, where they were spinning steering wheels on fast Boston Whalers and kicking up wakes in flat-bottomed, aluminum boats. They did not wait for the president or FEMA or anyone else to tell them that there were people out there — out there and desperate, on rooftops...
'I got out of the sheriff's office in about 20 seconds,' said Steve Artee, as his son, Chris, made a hard, boat-tilting turn on the swollen Vermilion. 'They just took my cell phone number, and I was gone. That's because Kathleen Blanco wasn't involved.'"
Now, anyone who hates Blanco and bureaucrats can't be all bad. But I don't agree with Mr. Artee that the people of Vermilion Parish behaved more responsibly or showed more strength of character because Gov. Blanco didn't have their parish on her speed dial. I believe the people of western Louisiana behaved better because they are, in fact, better people.
The failure revealed by Hurricane Katrina was not a failure of government, at least, not any more than government always fails. The failure in New Orleans was a failure of character. Corrupt people electing corrupt politicians who gave millions in tax dollars to corrupt cronies to either mis-construct vital levees or to spend the money on entirely useless pork projects. Then, when disaster struck, these same people—living a Faustian deal of votes for tax-funded handouts— were utterly lost when those corrupt government officials headed for high ground without them.
As John Fund of the Wall Street Journal wrote: "In just the past generation, the Pelican State has had a governor, an attorney general, three successive insurance commissioners, a congressman, a federal judge, a state Senate president and a swarm of local officials convicted. Last year, three top officials at Louisiana's Office of Emergency Preparedness were indicted…. Just this summer, associates of former [New Orleans] mayor Marc Morial were indicted for alleged kickbacks involving public contracts. Last month the FBI raided the home and car of Rep. William Jefferson as part of a probe into allegations he had misused his office."
Not to mention the widespread looting by the citizens of New Orleans themselves, which included televised looting by police officers, too. The chief administrative officer for Kenner, LA, was just busted for pilfering food, drinks, chainsaws and roof tarps from New Orleans and stashing them in his suburban home.
Hey -- Stay classy, New Orleans!
Then came Hurricane Rita, Katrina's ugly sister, to wreak similar havoc just a few hundred miles to the west. The communities affected were, on the surface, similar as well: Abbeville or Cameron, LA were "low income" communities. The education levels were similar to the Ninth Ward, too. And you won't find many branches of the Aryan Nations meeting among the dark-skinned natives of Cajun country, whose heritage is a genetic gumbo of Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and American Indians.
But while the people of New Orleans were panicking and complaining (not to mention stealing, shooting and stabbing) days after the storm, the Cajuns of western Louisiana were out in their boats, looking for lost neighbors and rescuing strangers off rooftops.
It wasn't just because Gov. Blanco wasn't involved—it was because almost NO government is involved in these folks' daily lives. The people of rural Louisiana grow up with the assumption that their survival in this world of woe is their responsibility. Unlike far too many people in New Orleans, "low income" isn't an excuse to the working families in rural Louisiana. It's just a condition to be dealt with. They live their lives as though they own them, unlike those government-dependent "victims" who live as though life is something the state provides for them and is responsible to maintain.
Randy Gary, a fisherman from Cameron, LA, was asked about his future after his boats were destroyed and flooding poisoned the oyster beds he fished.
He didn't blame FEMA or accuse President Bush of stealing his lunch money. He wasn't spotted kicking in the door of the local Wal-Mart to snag a plasma-screen TV "for survival purposes." He has yet to join the Cajun Action Committee to investigate why so many of Rita's victims spoke French.
Instead, as the AP reports, he smiled.
"What else we gonna do?" he said, pledging to rebuild his shattered home and work. "It's my life. It's what I do."
Hurricane Rita, you've met your match.

Hot and Dark
Thursday night, Kevin and his ex-before-last girlfriend slept in MY BED. I haven't been staying at home much, so I have not looked for stains yet. I'm going to explode once the juice is in the wires again.
So, out in Ebenezer, we now have 2 generators, and we are borrowing a window unit air conditioner that is temporarily installed in the living room. You know because a tiny window until will use less energy than the big central unit cooling off the entire house. This unit keeps the front of the house a chill 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
We have 6 people staying in our living room. Thank God I am not there. Hot, and a bunch of people that I do not care to be around.
Crowley is on a "Boil Order." This means that anyone one in the city needs to boil their water before using it. The shitty company that I work for gave us bottled water to drink, what a shocker. Unfortunately, they are ignorant. We have well water at work. Suprisingly enough, we have electricity, as well. Since the salt water, from the Gulf of Mexico, did not come this far north there is no danger from that. The water beneath the ground, in the water table, is naturaly filtered by the soil. So that means....it is as clean now as it was before the storm. Wow...idiots run this company. However, I never said that the water was safe. We do dump all our chemicals down the drain.
"Dilution is not the solution to pollution." Thanks Erin, you could not be more right.

MargaRITAville
Ok guys...it appears that the hurricane is coming this way. So far, it doesn't look like the absolute worst part is going to hit here, in Crowley. Although, the mandatory evacuation extends all the way to LA HWY 92, which is about 2-3 miles south of my house. OK...I'm convinced! I was here for Hurricane Lili, and I do not want to see a repeat with the bigger bitch, Rita.I'm on my way to Shreveport, if I can't get in touch with my friends there, I have a friend in Kansas.
I hope all the gas isn't gone yet! Hopefully I will have a house to come back to. Wish me luck.

- White folks don't make good news stories.
- The hurricane only hit black families' property.
- New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.
- Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.
- New Orleans has no white people.
- The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.
- When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV.
- The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans. Now the city is welfare, looters and gang free and they are in your city.
- Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet.
- Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.
- Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid

Riboflavin

Alternative names: Vitamin B-2 (riboflavin)
Definition: Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin in the B-complex group.
Function: Riboflavin (vitamin B-2) works with the other B vitamins. It is important for body growth and red blood cell production and helps in releasing energy from carbohydrates.
Food Sources: Lean meats, eggs, legumes, nuts, green leafy vegetables, dairy products, and milk provide riboflavin in the diet. Breads and cereals are often fortified with riboflavin.
Because riboflavin is destroyed by exposure to light, foods with riboflavin should not be stored in glass containers that are exposed to light.
Side Effects: Deficiency of riboflavin is not common in the U.S. because this vitamin is plentiful in the food supply. Significant deficiency syndromes are characterized by sore throat, swelling of mucous membranes, mouth and/or lip sores, anemia, and skin disorders.
There is no known toxicity to riboflavin. Because riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin, excess amounts are easily excreted by the body in the urine.
Recommendations: Recommended daily allowances (RDAs) are defined as the levels of intake of essential nutrients that the Food and Nutrition Board judges to be adequate to meet the known nutrient needs of almost all healthy people.
The best way to get the daily requirement of essential vitamins is to eat a balanced diet that contains a variety of foods from the food guide pyramid.
Specific recommendations for each nutrient depend on age, gender, and other factors (such as pregnancy). The U.S. Department of Agriculture has a PDF file that lists these recommendations.

Hurricane Katrina

It has been over a week since Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Louisiana-Mississippi Gulf Coast. I was in Lafayette, LA the weekend before Katrina caused the devastation. Beginning on Friday, I was glued to The Weather Channel, ready to make an evacuation myself. Friday, New Orleans was advised to make an evacuation, and Saturday the evacuation became mandatory.
Friday night, I did not notice much of a change in traffic; however Saturday, and mostly Sunday, I-10 was bumper to bumper with traffic. Unfortunately, not everyone could escape. Some chose not to escape. Some had no choice because of lack of transportation. Airports were closed, and rental cars were all taken. As a secondary measure, the mayor of New Orleans and Governor of Louisiana offered the Superdome as a shelter from the storm.
Mass chaos had already begun. A contra-flow system was created on I-10 from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. This reserved all lanes of the interstate to be directed out of the city, all in one direction. Its purpose was well served, and the city had advanced warning to escape from this, category 5, natural disaster.
Monday morning, Katrina made landfall. Here in Crowley, it was cloudy and breezy. We
did not even get a drop of rain. However, not everyone was so lucky. New Orleans was hit hard, immediately. Those in the Superdome were safe from the storm. When the electricity first went out, reporters say that they were actually applause and fanfare. They were happy! These are people with no sense. After the storm passed the levees surrounding the city were breached. Causing the waters from Lake Pontchatrain to spill into and flood the city. Several levees gave way and followed suit. The media broadcasted that alligators, sharks, and snakes filled the city. The days following the storm will go down in the history books. The Federal Government responded later than expected. Blame is being given everywhere. The residents of New Orleans begin to loot. There is no food, water, electricity, shelter, or hope. They become desperate and most of the act the same way you are I would, given the same situation.
I feel bad for the ones would could not escape. On the other hand, the ones that chose to stay because they wanted to, and they did not think they would be affected...I would rather not hear them bitch and moan about being trapped on television.
As seen on TV, people were trapped in their attacks, on top of buildings, and countless other places. They have been stranded for days deprived with the basic life needs. Again, it took much longer for the US Government to respond to their own tax paying citizens, than it took for the victims of the Tsunami.
Most are trying to make the latent response a factor of race. New Orleans has now almost been completely evacuated. New Orleans is predominantly black. St. Benard, on the other hand, is mostly white. People are still trapped in this city because most of the rescue efforts have been focused on New Orleans. That is how it goes, bigger cities yields bigger news. Even Oprah was leaning to the race factor.

No one can prevent a natural disaster. The Superdome is a man-made structure. It was a shelter, but no structure is weather proof. Also, nothing can completely withstand flood waters.
Emergency workers are struggling around the clock to save lives. Unfortunately, more than just nature is making this a difficult process. Thugs are shooting at the workers because they think they have been held down too long, and now it is their time to come up. In addition to civilian deaths, New Orleans emergency service agencies have had to deal with some suicides among their ranks, Mayor Ray Nagin stated: "I've got some firefighters and police officers that have been pretty much traumatized, and we've already had a couple of suicides so I am cycling them out as we speak, but we have a problem. I can get them to Baton Rouge, but once I get them to Baton Rouge there's no hospitals. They need physical and psychological evaluations."
A total coliform test was performed on a sample of the flood waters in New Orleans, it showed that the coliforms were 450,000x what should exist in normal pond water. Translation: That's some bad shit! It can easily lead to an epidemic. Yet another wave of tragedy.
Sunday morning, a woman's body remained lying at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Magazine Street - a business area in the lower Garden District with antique shops on the edge of blighted housing. The body had been there since at least Wednesday. As days passed, people covered her with blankets or plastic. By Sunday, a short wall of bricks had been built around her body, holding down a plastic tarpaulin. On it, someone had spray-painted a cross and the words, "Here lies Vera. God help us."
Baton Rouge has now become the most populated city in Louisiana. Lafayette has grown dramatically as well. It is estimated that they city will grow by 40,000 people, permanently. That is a large growth for such a small city. There are not enough homes, apartments, stores, gas, schools, or jobs for all of these people.
This morning, I heard news that the Canal Street levee breech has been repaired. It seems the city is on the up and up, but it will be at least 6 months before a sense of normality will return to the Big Easy. Here is a captured shot of the flooded Canal Street.
Now shelters are holding tens of thoughs of evacuees. More than anything they need monetary donations to the Red Cross. Volunteers helping out are good, but most of those people are just like you and me, except they just lost everything they own. They can do for themselves, and they can do for others, physically.
At the mall this weekend, I saw people grabbing loved ones and just breaking down in tears. It was a hard sight to see. It's sureal to see something of this calibar occuring so near. I have family that was trapped in the flood water's in St. Benard. To anyone who may come across this, Randy and Faye Blanchard are safe, and they are staying in Lafayette, LA. They are here with only the clothes on their back, and no home to return to.
David and Laura Hoffpauir are safe as well. They are still staying in their home.

House M.D.
Wilson: That’s our Hitler!
House: No way.
Wilson: Are you kidding? Her background’s perfect, she’s smart, she can obviously deal with your insanity…
House: Did you see her shoes?
Wilson: Her shoes? What, did your horoscope in Vogue tell you to avoid women wearing green shoes?
House: The eyes can mislead, the smile can lie, but the shoes always tell the truth.
Wilson: They were Prada. It means she has good taste.
House: They were not Prada. You wouldn’t know Prada if one stepped on your scrotum.
Wilson: Okay, well, they were nice, pointy…
House: Exactly, they were stylish, and very painful to wear. Only an incredibly shallow and insecure woman would rather be in pain all day then wear a decent looking, comfortable shoe, and that’s exactly the type I don’t need around here.
The new season begins Tuesday, September 13th!

Theme Song
I know this pain
Why do lock yourself up in these chains?
No one can change your life except for you
Don't ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?
Chorus:
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day
You could sustain
Or are you comfortable with the pain?
You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Lettin' your worries pass you by
Don't you think it's worth your time
To change your mind?
(chorus)
I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and
Break free the chains
Yeah i know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and you
Break free, break from the chains
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day yeah
If you hold on
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your wayIf you hold on for one more day,
If you hold on
Can you hold on
Hold on baby
Won't you tell me now
Hold on for one more day 'cause
It's gonna go your way
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can't you change it this time
Make up your mind
Hold on
Hold on
Baby hold on

"You from here, cher?"
You might be from Louisiana when...
As a child, you play games with your friends by knocking down the crawfish mounds, and you get paid for it.
You greet people with "Howz ya momma'an'dem?" and hear back "Dey fine!"
Every so often, you have waterfront property.
When giving directions you use words like "uptown," "downtown," "backatown," "riverside," "lakeside," "cross da bayou" or "down the levee."
When you refer to a geographical location "way up North," you are referring to places like Shreveport, Little Rock, or Memphis, "where it gets real cold."
You've ever had Mello Joy or Community Coffee.
You can pronounce Tchoupitoulas but can't spell it.
You don't worry when you see ships riding higher in the river than the top of your house.
You judge a po-boy by the number of napkins used.
The waitress at your local sandwich shop tells you a fried oyster po-boy "dressed" is healthier than a Caesar salad. [Ceasar salads are healthy?]
You can eat Popeye's, Haydel's and Zapp's for lunch and wash it down with Barq's and several Abitas, without losing it all on your stoop.
The four seasons in your year are: crawfish, shrimp, crab, and King Cake. [Cuz they show ain't no Spring and Fall.]
You "wrench" your hands in the "zink" with an onion bar to get the crawfish smell off.
You don't learn until high school that Mardi Gras is not a national holiday. [It's not??]
You don't learn until high school what a "county" is.
Your last name isn't pronounced the way it's spelled.
You know what a nutria rat is but you still pick it to represent your baseball team.
You have spent a summer afternoon on the Lake Pontchartrain seawall catching blue crabs.
You describe a color as "K & B Purple."
You like your rice and politics dirty.
You pronounce the largest city in the state as "Nawlins." [But if you're really from Louisiana, you say "New OR luns."]
You know those big roaches can fly, but you're able to sleep at night anyway.
You assume everyone has mosquito swarms in their backyard.
You realize the rainforest is less humid than Louisiana.
You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.
When out of town, you stop and ask someone where there is a drive-through Daiquiri place, and they look at you like you have three heads.
You have flood insurance.
Your burial plot is six feet over rather than six feet under.
A Bloody Mary or Mimosa is the perfect breakfast beverage.
You have a monogrammed go-cup.
You get on a bus marked "Cemeteries" and don’t think twice.
You shake out your shoes before putting them on.
The second most festive and anticipated holiday is Mardi Gras.
Your sunglasses fog up when you step outside.
No matter where else you go in the world, you are always disappointed in the food.
You get up in the morning and start cooking a pot of rice before you give any thought to what you'll fix for supper.
You call lunch, "dinner," and you call dinner, "supper."
You ask, "How dey running?" and "Are dey fat?" when you're inquiring about seafood quality.
When it starts to rain, you cover your beer instead of your head.
You call tomato sauce "red gravy."
You eat sno-balls instead of throwing them.
Your house payment is less than your air conditioning bill.
Your grandparents are called "Maw Maw" and "Paw Paw." ["Mom-Mom" and "Pop-pop"]
You fall asleep to the soothing sounds of box fans.
No one eats healthy.
At a crawfish boil, you are told not to eat the dead ones, and you know which ones they are.
You're excited because the Atkin's Diet allows cracklins.
You "save" the dishes and clothes.
You're a Saints fan!
You consider a Redneck to be anyone living North of I-10.
You're in high school before you realize that beaches are supposed to have white sand.
At the first sign of a cool front, it's immediately known as "gumbo weather."
Someone shows up at your house, and you hollar: "Get down!"

RIP Peetu
Everyone in the house laughed at me because my fish died. I don't think it's too funny.
I threw Peetu out in the backyard. I figured another animal could eat him, and the circle of life would continue.
Ignorance
Some of the most ingorant people that I know are the same people that think this of everyone else. So, get out and experience life, rather than just hearing it from everyone else. Cuz it ain't what ya heard.

Welcome Home!

Beth, you have been gone all summer and now you're home! Welcome back to Acadiana. As I am sure you noticed, the heat is here to greet you as well. Maybe I'll hear from you sometime after tomorrow because I'm sure you are tired as all get out. Give me a call; I have a lot of bitching to catch you up on.

Inspiration
It really does work. I rarely smile 8-5 (M-F), but when I do, people always think that something is up.
Also, Dove Chocolates have been putting messages on the inside of the foil wrappers. I just snagged myself a sweet treat, and it says: "Temptation is fun...giving in is even better."
On a separate note, I think the TV show, "Everybody Loves Raymond" is much like my own life. I can see things panning out just that way for me. Thankfully, I'm making the appropriate changes.

Highlight for You
I understand that companies want to cut their costs as much as possible. Hell, I try to do that at home. If it causes extra work, to me, it is worth the price. We recycle weigh-paper that we weigh out our samples on, which compromises our results. We recycle disposable pipettes, which compromises results. We recycle GLOVES, which compromises our health and is a major OSHA violation. We use cheap paper filters instead of glass, which is cheaper, but 10 extra steps have to be taken. I could go on an on...
OH...and any thoughts of a 90-day evaluation should go out the door. Even an evaluation after a year is unheard of. Who needs a merit raise?

Do What I Do
Ok, I have to let you in on what is not a secret. I'm not particularly happy at my job. I know, it may have come as a shock, but I had to put the truth out there. The trend is that when people quit, they do not hire a new people to replace them. Simply, more work is tacked onto everyone else. However, I think that my station is a wee bit too busy for them to tack on anything more.
My tactic: If you play stupid all the time, eventually they will quit asking you questions. Most importantly, you will not get asked to take on new responsibilities.
Some of you may consider it unfortunate for others to think that you're stupid, but I have found enjoyment in it. Sometimes the more you know, the more you have to do. I don't plan on moving up in the company, so why learn new things. My resume is full as it is anyway. If I perform any new tasks, I will be over the one page limit.

At UL, I have been known to leave notes on vehicles. I didn't do it often. OK...OK...I confess, I did it once, but it felt REALLY good. Some girl illegally parked, and she made it close to impossible for me to get out. I could not back up and give myself enough space to maneuver out of the space. I must have backed up and pulled up at least 15 times. I was getting pissed. Driving a standard pickup truck did not make the task any easier.
I left her a note, just to let her know about herself. It made me feel so good. I never did it again, but I will jump on it, given the opportunity. Actually, I would like to leave this:

Next on the agenda: undesirable synonomys for boobs. At first, Lena said that she didn't like "hooters." I bursted out laughing. I haven't heard that word in forever, other than the restaurant. They both agreed that "titties" was really gross.
On another note, mom just walked in my room. Apparently, I need a reason for being quiet. I have to be bright and bubbly every single day.
My response, "because I want to." So, then I have an attitude problem.
"I'm your mother. You're not supposed to have an attitude with me."
My response: "I can if I want to."

A Shot to the Heart
I had dinner tonight with some nurses that I worked with at LGMC. Hopefully, things from tonight will become successful.
Slipping...
She deserves to leave. She has not recieved a raise in four years. If that doesn't tell you everything about the company, you're stupid.
Everyday, I feel like I'm falling deeper and deeper into a depression. I will continue to attempt to look on the bright side. I thank God everyday that I have a job, no matter how crappy it is.

I got my parents hooked up to Cingular tonight, and just for that I get a $25 debit card. PARTY! What is really aggravating is that they each got identical phones to mine! Am I the only one that finds this incredibly annoying? One house and three identical phones. Not cool.

No Escape
I get to work in about 12 minutes. I have to check in with the guard. As I am driving through the plant, the smell of vitamins makes me want to vomit. I get to work, clock in, then enter the QC lab. Upon entering the lab, in about 0-5 minutes, Eva decides to jump my shit about something. She makes up something stupid every single day. No validity to any of her arguments. I'm going to explode on her, and soon.
I grab my 8 standards that I have to run on my machine every 24 hours, then I begin my day. I have to prep my standards, then put them on the machine and let it run. It takes about an hour and a half to run them all. Eva comes look at my machine, then she bitches at me because I am running a Biotin standard. I test for Biotin everyday, so I have to run a standard for Biotin everyday. It's the way that it is supposed to be, but she doesn't understand. I just grin and bear it.
While my standards are running, I make mobile phase (to dilute my samples) and/or start prepping the samples that have appeared on the cart. I make 10 liters of mobile phase daily. I use it all! I run an excessive amount of samples. Each samples takes 100 mL to dilute. Most have a second dilution, but that only uses 9 mL of my diluent. So, to figure out the calculations...I run about 100 samples per day. (At 100 mL per sample, and using 10 L....that yields 100 samples.)
During the day, while I'm busting my butt...I get bombarded with new samples that are coming in and need to be done NOW. I say, "Yeah-yeah...put it in line. I'll get to it, when I get to it." I take an hour lunch everyday, unlike some people, because that is MY time. I use all of my time! I know they do not realize how much I don't care. Also, they can't figure out that it takes more than one person to do my job.
I leave late everyday. Too much to do, too little time.
I get home. Mom's here. She is always here. I hate living at home. I walk in, and mom says: "You back?" or "You made it?" I can bet money on it. She says it every single day. I have come to not even pay attention to it, eventhough it's like nails scratching on a chalkboard.
At that point, I walk to my room and remain there for the remainder of the night. I hate my working life, and I hate my homelife. I am not sure others fully understand. In fact, I know this.
Kevin is an asshole, and he treats everybody like shit. Everyone here has to alter their lives to accommodate him. Well, I bring up stuff to mom, and she takes his side each time. No matter what, they bow to King Kevin. I am not sure why, but that's the way of life around here. So, I stay in my room and avoid it all.
Monday through Friday, I'm at work or home. No escape. I am stuck in this life, this life of nothingness.

Po Lil' Crib
This is Cypress's little shot-gun house that she lives in for free. Must be nice! I have been fixing it up for her while she is gone. Tonight Cypress called me. She is doing well, and coming home in about a month. I'm excited too.Her house has become my little weekend getaway. I only go there on the weekends, and it helps me escape in more ways than one. Hopefully, I'll be able to get my own place soon so I can permanently escape this hostage-holding prison.

FLUF
Tonight he calls me because he wanted me to let him on the computer tomorrow. By the way, the computer is in my room. The room that he seems to think is his second bedroom. I told him that he could use the laptop, which is another computer that I paid for. However, I will allow him to use it because I won't use it anymore. He still wanted to use this one, but I convinced him that the laptop still works....and that is because it does.
Anyway, he calls back later. I guess he thought he thought he got smart all of a sudden. He said, "Let me on your computer tomorrow because I need to use the printer." Sorry FLUF, printer is out of ink. Try again, asshole.

Swim Party
Anyway, Kevin, my loser brother, was drinking...as always. He decided to proclaim his ignorance to everyone. Although, most everyone there was ignorant, so they probably thought that he looked smart. He told everyone that if he went to school, he would go to Med School, Pharmacy School, or go for Nursing. Those are pretty bold words there, fat ass. I mean, you did drop out of LSUE early in your second semester because you couldn't handle the Rad Tech program.
Also, he decided to tell everyone that I didn't have a real job when I graduated college. Yeah, he told everyone that I didn't have a job making above $8/hour.
THEN, tonight we all had to evacuate the premises because he decided that he was hosting a card game with all of his friends. So...my mom and dad...THE OWNERS OF THE HOUSE...had to go watch TV in their bedroom...while my mooch-ass brother took over the rest of the house, until well after midnight. Once again, everyone had to alter their lives so that Kevin could get his way. Who the hell is he??
Oh, that's right. He's the 29 year old Postal Worker still living at home with his momma. I almost forgot.

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad
I don't wanna!
I usually shower because it is quicker. I'm on my feet all day, and the shower doesn't help my aching feet at all. It just makes it that much worse.
I know that I always feel better after a shower, and I like to be clean. Lately, I am just to lazy to get up and do it. I don't like it, and I don't wanna!

Moist
Mom and dad went to the casino tonight, so I had the house to myself. It was great. I love being alone. I went to WalMart, running, then came home and ate what I wanted to eat. It's like a breath of fresh air. Actually, it is almost like I have my own life. Imagine that!
Kevin got home kind of late, and we ended up talking about all kinds of stuff. The beginning of the conversation started with how I'm miserable with my job, and how I haven't heard anything from Baker-Hughes yet. By the way, I'm quite discouraged.
To make a long story short, Kevin tells me: "You don't know what I had to admit to the other day, huh?" Not knowing, I say, "no."
Kevin has a new girlfriend. Obviously, they did the big nasty. Well, this girl "squirts." In other words, she ejaculates. He proceeds to let me know that they were doing in the other night, and she really wet everything. Now, keep in mind, he is doing this in his momma's house and in his twin bed. She wet his duvet...it soaked through his duvet, through the comforter, through the sheets, all the way to the mattress! He slept on the edge of his bed all night, and the next morning it was STILL wet. That's a lot of juice!
When he woked up, he fixed his bed...thinking that if the bed was fixed, mom would not touch it. He also put pillows over the wet spot because it was still wet on top.
Well, mom did notice, and she called him during the day. She saw that he had some wine the night before, and she said, "Well, the wine relaxed you boy?" She assumed that he pissed in the bed while he was sleeping!
[I just had to take a small break from typing because I am laughing.]
He never said that he did pee, but he never said that he didn't either. He had to let her believe it was what she thought it was. He can't really tell his mom, "No mom, it's not pee. It's cum!"

Blue Light Boy
I watched "White Chicks" tonight. Funny movie! "Oh my God, I am about to have a 'B.F.'"
On my way back home, I was driving through Scott, Louisiana. I was doing a little over the speed limit, and apparently I "disregarded" a stop sign. I saw the headlights of what looked like a Crown Victoria behind me, so I let off the gas. It WAS a cop, and he ended up flashing his blue lights at me and pulling me over.
I was so upset. I wasn't going that much over the speed limit, and I just wanted to go home. I was nervous. I just got in an accident that was my fault, and I didn't want to have another ticket on my record. I gave him my license, and he went back to his car. I was beside myself. He came back to me, handed me my license, and said to slow it down and be more attentive. "Thank you very much, sir!" I have NEVER been let off in my LIFE! I have been stopped a few times, and I got a ticket every time. If I add up all the traffic tickets that I have received, not counting parking tickets, I have had 5 tickets. I am in disbelief. I thought that getting let off was some kind of urban legend.

Happy Birthday Scott!

Whoa dog, now you da big 23! Had fun in Houston for the weekend? Well, Crowley was a blast too! Now, on Monday you get to come back to reality...just a little bit. I know you're on cloud nine and all...for more than one reason. I am sure you had a great time, and there's a lot to follow with that. I just wanted to wish you a good one, and stay young while you can.
Doesn't he look like Topher Grace?

Where is it?
Today, I went to work at 08:00, like every other day. A few weeks ago, I was getting to work at 07:30 or 07:45, but I was told that I work "8 to 5." Also, I had been leaving at 6pm or later everynight. I decided that it had to stop. I could leave everynight at ten, and I still would not be caught up. So, I decided to destress a little, and I leave at 5pm...no matter what doesn't get done.
Red is the newest addtion at work, and she's cool. She reminds me a lot of Cypress. I think I tell her that almost everyday. Lately, we have been talking a lot in the lab, but we still manage to get our work done. It doesn't slow us down at all. We work while we talk. We are in fairly close quarters.
Today, Lady E, the 63 year old bag, got pissed at us talking. I saw it when she stormed through the lab and she slammed the door. She is messy. She will be sweet as pie to your face, and as soon as you turn around, she starts talking shit. Right before I left, I saw her bitching to the lab manager saying, "You need to tell them something about all the talking!" She thinks that we aren't going to get any work done. I know that I get the same amount of work done, and I have the heaviest load. What lady E didn't notice was that I was standing right behind her as she was ranting and raving. I kept my cool, eventhough it was very difficult. I am not sure what made me refrain from opening my mouth. However, I did walk out and close the door louder than normal. You know, just enough to show that I was there, and that I heard. Oh, and as I was walking out, I said, "I hate this fucking job."
I have been working at Company W for a month now. I have yet to have a "good day." They are all bad. Every minute of every horrible, sweaty hour...awful. A good day will never come. I will never catch up, and there will never be a light at the end of the tunnel. I have been leaving only 15-30 minutes late each day, and I am already drowning in work. They extra hours that I had been putting in was just keeping my head above water. Not anymore...I don't put in the overtime, and I'm drowning. However, I do not care. I work 8-5.
We are not allowed breaks, and I have heard that they try to slip their way out of giving raises. They took away the coffee and the water cooler. I am stuck, on my feet, in a 90 degree lab, dehydrating, working my tail off. There is no music, and apparently we cannot talk to help ourselves through the day. This job is no better than SPL. I hate it.
